Terms of use

How we handle what you post, what you must not do, and the limits of our responsibility. You do not need to agree to anything just to read the site.

This is an English translation for reference. If there is any difference, the Japanese version prevails.

1. About these Terms

These Terms set out the conditions for using LCA Atlas (“the Site”), provided by the LCA Atlas editorial team (“the Operator”). You do not need to register or agree to anything just to browse the Site. If you log in and post, answer or save content, you are treated as having agreed to these Terms.

2. Accounts

  • An email address is required to register. We do not handle passwords; you are authenticated by a link sent to your email.
  • We do not require your real name as your display name. A role name such as “Packaging design lead” is fine.
  • You may not use a display name that impersonates another person.
  • If you wish to close your account, please contact us via the Contact page.

3. How posts are handled

Copyright in a post (question, answer or article) remains with the person who wrote it. It does not pass to the Operator. On that basis, you permit the following uses to the extent necessary to run the Site.

  • Display and storage on the Site, and inclusion in search
  • Reorganizing it by topic together with other posts and publishing the result as a “synthesis”. In that case, a link to the original post is always shown. Where original text is reproduced as it is, this is kept within the scope of quotation and the source is clearly stated.
  • Using excerpts to introduce the Site

When you post, please make sure that you have the right to make the content public. Avoid posting figures covered by your employer’s confidentiality obligations, or pasting other people’s copyright works as they are. The intended use is that you write the conditions (functional unit, database, etc.) but not the names of specific business partners or confidential measured values.

4. Deleting and hiding posts

  • You can delete your own posts while they are drafts. Questions, answers and articles cannot be deleted once published. Deleting a discussion that already has answers would take away the footing of people who read it and made decisions based on it. If you want to withdraw a post, we will hide it instead (Contact).
  • Posts that infringe rights, violate laws or regulations, or make assertions contrary to fact may be hidden at the Operator’s discretion. Requests from third parties are accepted as described on the Contact page.

5. Prohibited conduct

  • Infringing the rights of others (copyright, trademarks, reputation, privacy)
  • Impersonating others, or presenting a false career history or affiliation
  • Posts made for advertising purposes, and posting the same content repeatedly
  • Conduct that intimidates other users. Writing in the manner of “You don’t even know that?” is prohibited here.
  • Obstructing the operation of the Site by bulk retrieval through automated means

6. Accuracy of content and limits of responsibility

The content of the Site is reference information that holds only under stated conditions. LCA results vary with the functional unit, system boundary, database, impact assessment method, region and year. A judgement written here may not apply to your case.

If you use it for purposes where you bear responsibility for the results, such as third-party verification, publishing an EPD, disclosure required by law, or submission to business partners, always check the primary sources yourself. The Operator and the contributors are not responsible for the consequences of decisions made using information on the Site.

The Operator does not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of the content or its continued availability (this also applies to the paid plan). The content may be changed, or the Site discontinued, without notice.

7. Paid plan (Pro)

  • Pro is charged monthly or yearly and renews automatically until you cancel. Prices and the timing and method of payment are as shown in the legal notice and on the subscription confirmation page.
  • People subscribing to Pro for the first time get the first 30 days free (once per person). Payment for the plan you chose starts automatically on the day the free period ends.
  • Payments are processed through Stripe Managed Payments. Stripe (Link) handles payments, receipts and payment enquiries, and Stripe's terms also apply.
  • You can cancel yourself from “Manage billing” on the Plans page. After cancelling, you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for, then return to Free.
  • We do not refund payments after you subscribe or give pro-rata refunds for cancelling mid-period, except where required by law or where Stripe issues a refund.
  • If payment cannot be confirmed, we may suspend access to Pro.
  • If we change the price, we will announce it on the Site and by email beforehand, and it will apply from the next renewal.

8. Links to external sites

The news section shows only facts, namely the headlines, dates and links of other sites, and does not store the article text. The Operator is not responsible for the content of linked pages. Always check the content of each article on the linked page.

9. Changes to these Terms

These Terms will be changed as necessary. Important changes will be announced on the Site. If you post after a change, you are treated as having agreed to the changed Terms.

10. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan.
